Questions about MitoCORE

The basics

What is MitoCORE by Ortho Molecular Products?

MitoCORE is a multivitamin and mineral capsule made by Ortho Molecular Products. A 4 capsule serving lists 20 vitamins and minerals plus N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, Acetyl L-Carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, and plant extracts. It comes in a 120 count bottle.

Is MitoCORE a multivitamin?

Yes. The Supplement Facts panel lists 12 vitamins and vitamin like nutrients and 8 minerals. It also lists other ingredients such as N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine and Acetyl L-Carnitine, so compare the full panel with your current supplements.

How many capsules are in a serving, and how long does a bottle last?

One serving is 4 capsules. The label suggests 2 to 4 capsules per day, or as your health care professional recommends. At 4 capsules a day, 120 capsules last about 30 days. At 2 capsules a day, they last about 60 days.

What is the difference between the 120 count and the 60 count?

Both bottles hold the same formula. The 120 count has 30 servings and the 60 count has 15 servings at 4 capsules each. See the MitoCORE 60 count bottle if you want a smaller size.

Ingredients

What are N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, Acetyl L-Carnitine, and alpha lipoic acid?

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine is a form of the amino acid cysteine. Acetyl L-Carnitine is an acetylated form of carnitine, an amino acid derivative. Alpha lipoic acid is a compound the body makes in small amounts. A serving of MitoCORE lists 600 mg, 500 mg, and 200 mg of these, in that order.

What forms of folate and vitamin B12 are in MitoCORE?

Folate comes from Quatrefolic®, a (6S)-5-MTHF glucosamine salt. A serving lists 800 mcg of it, shown as 1,360 mcg DFE. Vitamin B12 is methylcobalamin at 250 mcg per serving.

What plant extracts are in MitoCORE?

The label lists green tea leaf extract (45% EGCG) at 45 mg, broccoli seed extract (TrueBroc®, 13% glucoraphanin) at 40 mg, and trans-Resveratrol at 10 mg. The resveratrol comes from the roots of Polygonum cuspidatum. Amounts are per 4 capsule serving.

What forms of minerals does MitoCORE use?

Magnesium is dimagnesium malate and calcium is citrate. Zinc and manganese are bisglycinate chelates, and selenium is a glycinate complex. Chromium is O-polynicotinate (ChromeMate®), iodine is potassium iodide, and potassium is citrate.

Using it safely

Who should check with a doctor or pharmacist before taking MitoCORE?

The label says pregnant or nursing women should consult a physician. Anyone who takes prescription medicine, has a health condition, or plans surgery should also ask first. A Mixwell pharmacist can review the label with you.

Can MitoCORE interact with medicines?

It may. Acetyl L-Carnitine has been reported to interact with warfarin type blood thinners. Alpha lipoic acid and L-carnitine may affect how thyroid medicine works. Alpha lipoic acid, N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, and green tea extract may also interact with diabetes, nitrate, and blood thinning medicines. Call (909) 378-7301 so a pharmacist can check your list.

Can I take MitoCORE with other vitamins, minerals, or a multivitamin?

Ask first. MitoCORE already contains vitamins A, C, D, B6, niacin, folate, B12, iodine, zinc, magnesium, and more. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes that too much of a nutrient is more likely when people take a multivitamin plus single nutrient products. A pharmacist can help you avoid doubling up.

Does the label list allergens or diet claims?

The label says MitoCORE is made without gluten, yeast, artificial colors, or artificial flavors. It does not state vegan, vegetarian, soy free, dairy free, or non GMO. It contains green tea leaf extract. Ask us if you have a food sensitivity or diet need.

How should I store MitoCORE?

Keep the bottle tightly closed and store it at room temperature. Keep it out of reach of children.
